Master Data Import Worksheet lets you import data to a basic table and its underlying Master Data Information table at the same time. You set up a template that maps some columns to the basic table, such as the item table, and other columns to the Master Data Information that doesn’t exist directly on that table. This works for items, customers, vendors, and other master data records, and you can run different templates for different scenarios.
You import your Excel file by selecting the file, choosing the worksheet, and running the import against the template you’ve set up. The import template card shows which fields map to configuration values in the Master Data Information and which fields map to the basic table.
Importing to the basic table and Master Data Information in one operation
With Master Data Import Worksheet, you can import data to the basic table and the underlying Master Data Information table at the same time. In a typical example, you import items with their fields on the item table together with the underlying fields that belong on the Master Data Information tables.
This isn’t limited to items. You can do the same on customers, vendors, and other record types, where you want to import using different templates for different scenarios. The point is to bring in information that doesn’t exist directly on the basic table without splitting it into separate imports.
How the import template maps your fields
To run an import, you start from one of the templates you’ve created. You select your file, select the worksheet, and import.
The import template card shows all the different fields in the setup. Some of the fields relate to the configuration values, which is the Master Data Information. Other fields relate to the basic template. For an item import, the basic template is the item, so you can only select the item table and the Master Data Information that belongs to it.
Working with Master Data on customers and vendors
If you have Master Data on customers and vendors, the same approach applies. You can include specification text and files, and you can import these directly on the import worksheet.
