How does the overall migration process work?
In this video, we will run through the overall migration process using the Migration Toolbox.
This is what happens in the video
The first thing we want to do is to set up a new company.
So, with the tool, we set up +150 tables in the new database using best practices setup.
This is done in the newest version of Dynamics 365, Business Central or NAV.
The second thing is to have data mapped into Excel templates.
We have therefore created a lot of templates, where you can map items, vendors, customers, etc, up to a 100 different tables, and we have made those templates, so it’s easy for the user to map it.
So for instance, if we migrate from an old system, which is not NAV, we can use this template to map the data nicely to add them into the new company.
If the old version of the database is already a NAV version, we have a tool to prepare export and map data in the old version.
This means, we can do a lot of work in the old NAV database, and this will save us lots of work with many different features.
So if you have an old NAV there’s a lot of functionality to map and set up the data very easily, so when you export the data from the old NAV, everything is mapped and looks nice.
This process is managed in the Mapping and Migration Checklist, which is an Excel sheet with lots of worksheets in it, and that sheet will be used to keep an overview through the process and see what data is ready and what data is not.
So we will run through this Mapping and Migration Checklist in a detailed video.
Finally, get ready to go live, and that should be done in only a few hours, and now that everything is made correctly, so from the batch job from the old live company, we can export all the data into the new live company, which will make the entire implementation process very easy.
