When you calculate customs tariff specifications in your business solution, you can choose between two levels of detail. The standard calculation works from the tariff number and the country of origin. If you need more detail, you can run a calculation that also includes the actual item number and item description, giving you a breakdown per item.

Standard customs tariff calculation by tariff number and country of origin

By default, the customs tariff specification is calculated based on two factors: the tariff number and the country of origin. This gives you a tariff specification grouped at that level, which covers the most common needs when you report customs data.

Detailed calculation with item number and item description

When you need more granularity, you can specify the calculation with the actual item number and item description. To do this, you use the action Calculate Customs Tariff with Item Number.

The result shows each of the items individually, including the measurements per item, and a total on the tariff number. That way you can see exactly which items contribute to each tariff number rather than only seeing the grouped figure.

Choosing the right calculation method

Both methods produce a customs tariff specification. The difference is the level of detail. Use the standard calculation when grouping by tariff number and country of origin is enough. Use the calculation with item number when you need to trace the figures back to individual items and their descriptions.
