This is what happens in the video
When you work with waybills in your Microsoft business solution, you need to set up your packaging types first. The packaging types define the boxes and containers you use for shipping, including their dimensions, weight, and capacity. This article walks you through how to create a packaging type and what each field controls.
You manage packaging types from the packaging type overview. From here you can see every packaging type in your catalog and add the ones you are missing.
When you create a packaging type, you specify the net weight of the box, its dimensions (length, width, and height), and the unit of measure used for those dimensions. Based on the dimensions, the system calculates the volume of the box in cubic meters. You can also set a recommended maximum weight the box can hold, and define the packaging type itself, for example as a package.
Setting up packaging types for waybills
To use waybills, you have to define your packaging types up front. The packaging type overview shows all the packaging types currently in your catalog, and it is also where you add new ones when something is missing.
Creating a new packaging type
As an example, you can add a medium-sized box. You give it a net weight, for instance half a kilogram, and then enter its dimensions. The box in this example is 50 centimeters long, 40 centimeters wide, and 30 centimeters tall.
One of the fields indicates the unit of measure you are using for your dimensions, so the system knows whether you are working in centimeters, meters, or another unit.
Calculated volume and capacity
Based on the length, width, and height you enter, the system calculates the volume of the box. The volume is shown in cubic meters.
You can also add a recommended maximum weight for the box. In this example, the box can only take 50 kilograms. Finally, you specify the type, which here is a package.
Q&A
Why do I need to set up packaging types before using waybills?
Waybills rely on your packaging types to know which boxes and containers you ship with, along with their dimensions, weight, and capacity. Without packaging types defined, you cannot work with waybills properly.
How is the volume of a packaging type calculated?
The system calculates the volume automatically based on the length, width, and height you enter for the box. The result is shown in cubic meters.
Can I set a weight limit on a packaging type?
Yes. You can add a recommended maximum weight for each packaging type. For example, you can specify that a box can only take 50 kilograms.
What information do I enter when creating a packaging type?
You enter the net weight, the dimensions (length, width, and height), the unit of measure for those dimensions, an optional recommended maximum weight, and the type itself, such as a package.
