This is what happens in the video
When you work with waybills in your shipping setup, you can save time by defining default settings that automatically fill in the most common fields. You configure these defaults on the Shipping Manager Setup page, where you decide things like weight units, volume units, number series, and your standard shipping agent.
The defaults handle the repetitive work for you, but you keep full flexibility. When you generate a new waybill, you can always change the shipping agent or any other field to match the specific shipment.
Configuring defaults on the Shipping Manager Setup page
The Shipping Manager Setup page is where you control the defaults for both your packages and your waybills. From here you set up how the system should behave every time you create a new waybill.
For packages, you decide how weight and volume are calculated. In this example, the weight is set to be calculated in kilograms and the volume in cubic meters.
You also need to choose number series for two things:
- One number series for your waybill headers
- One number series for the packaging units on your waybills
Setting a default shipping agent and service
You can define a standard shipping agent so it is selected automatically on every new waybill. In this setup, the standard shipping agent is GLS, using the GLS Business service.
Once this is in place, the system uses it to fill in the relevant fields whenever you generate a waybill, so you do not have to select the agent and service manually each time.
How the defaults work when you create a waybill
When you go to the waybill page and generate a new waybill, you can see the setup in action. The numbers are filled in based on your number series, and your shipping agent and its services are populated automatically.
You are not locked into these values. If a particular shipment needs a different carrier, you can change to another shipping agent whenever necessary. The default setup gives you the convenience of automatic field population while keeping the freedom to adjust each waybill as needed.
Q&A
Where do you configure default settings for waybills?
You configure them on the Shipping Manager Setup page. Here you set defaults for both packages and waybills, including weight and volume units, number series, and your standard shipping agent.
What can you set as defaults for packages?
You can decide how weight and volume are calculated. For example, you can set weight to be calculated in kilograms and volume in cubic meters.
How many number series do you need for waybills?
You need two: one number series for your waybill headers and one for the packaging units on your waybills.
Can you still change the shipping agent if you use a default setup?
Yes. The default shipping agent and service are filled in automatically when you generate a new waybill, but you are always free to change to another shipping agent if a specific shipment requires it.
