When you install Abakion’s B2B e-commerce app, you also get the Master Data Information app. This app holds all the extended item information that drives your webshop. You use it to add specifications, long sales texts, images, and files to your items, and to control which items appear in the shop and how they are organised into a hierarchy.

You access the Master Data Information app from any item card in Business Central by clicking Related and then Master Data Information. There you find three menu items: Specifications, Long texts, and Files.

Specifications let you attach structured product information using information codes and values. For a bike, for example, you can define a bike type, and each information code can hold multiple values. A bike can be a city bike or another type. You create as many information codes and values as you need.

Long texts let you write detailed sales text for each item. Files let you add more than one image, PDF files, or other documents to an item.

You also use the Master Data Information to decide which items show up in the webshop and to build the hierarchy that structures the shop. Everything that feeds the extended webshop content runs through this one app.

What the Master Data Information app is

The Master Data Information app is the foundation for all the extended information you use in the webshop. It installs automatically alongside the B2B e-commerce app, so you don’t need to set it up separately. Without it, your webshop would only have the basic item data from Business Central.

How to access the Master Data Information app

Open an item card in Business Central. Click Related, then Master Data Information. From here you can work with the three areas that make up the extended item data:

  • Specifications for structured product attributes
  • Long texts for detailed sales descriptions
  • Files for images, PDFs, and other documents

Adding specifications with information codes and values

Specifications cover any kind of structured information you want to attach to an item. You define information codes, and each code can hold multiple values. In a bike example, you can add a “bike type” code, and a single bike can be set as a city bike or another type. You create as many information codes and information values as your product range requires.

Long texts and files for items

Long texts let you create detailed sales text for each item, so your webshop shows proper product descriptions rather than just an item number and a name. Through Files you can add more than one image per item, along with PDF files or other documents that customers may need.

Controlling what appears in the webshop

The Master Data Information app does more than store content. You use it to choose which items are shown in the webshop and to build the hierarchy that organises the products. Combined with the specifications, long texts, and files, this gives you full control over the webshop content from one place.
