When you set up B2B e-commerce in Business Central, the orders that come from your webshop are not created as sales orders right away. Because the webshop is an online solution, every time a customer adds items to their basket, those items are added to a sales quote. To make this work, you need a dedicated salesperson code that the system can use to identify and find these web-generated quotes later.

Why a webshop basket becomes a sales quote in Business Central

The B2B e-commerce solution runs as an online system. When a customer browses your shop and adds items to their basket, Business Central registers those items on a sales quote rather than on a finished sales order. The quote holds the basket until the customer is ready to proceed, which keeps the order open and editable on the web side.

Create a dedicated salesperson code for web orders

To connect the webshop to Business Central, you need a salesperson code that is used only for web orders. The idea is simple: by tagging every web quote with the same salesperson, you can later search for and identify all the open sales quotes that originate from the website.

In this example, the salesperson code is called Web. To set it up, search for the Salespeople/Purchasers list in Business Central and create a new salesperson with the code Web.

Once the code is in place, the system uses it to find the open sales quotes coming from the website, so you can process them further when the time comes.

Q&A

Why does a web order become a sales quote instead of a sales order in Business Central?

Because the B2B e-commerce solution is an online system, items that a customer adds to their basket are added to a sales quote. The quote stays open until the order is processed, which keeps it editable on the web side before it becomes a sales order.

Why do you need a dedicated salesperson code for web orders?

The salesperson code identifies which quotes come from the website. By assigning a code used only for web orders, such as a code called Web, you can later search for and find all the open sales quotes generated from the webshop.

How do you create the web salesperson code in Business Central?

Search for the Salespeople/Purchasers list in Business Central, create a new salesperson, and give it the code Web. This code is then used only for web orders.
