After you install a B2B e-commerce solution in Business Central, the next step is to set up the master data needed to run the shop. The master data information codes control how your shop is structured, including which shop an item belongs to, how the menu hierarchy is organised, and whether an item or customer appears on the webshop.

You set up master data information codes by searching for Master Data Information Codes in Business Central. The solution comes with demo data, but you create your own codes and values for the shop.

For the menu structure, you create three levels: a top menu, a main menu, and a submenu. These three layers form the menu hierarchy of the shop.

To control visibility on the webshop, you create an information code such as Show on Web with the values Yes and No. This determines whether an item or customer is created on the webshop.

Setting up master data information codes in Business Central

Once you have installed the B2B e-commerce solution in Business Central, you set up the master data information that the shop needs to run. Start by searching for Master Data Information Codes.

The solution already includes a lot of demo data, but you will need to add new master data codes and values specific to your shop.

Creating the base shop code

The first code you need is one for the base shop. In this example, we create a single code for a B2B shop. This defines the shop that the rest of your master data refers to.

Building the three-level menu hierarchy

Next, you set up the menus. This shop uses three layers of menus:

  • Top menu
  • Main menu
  • Submenu

You create one code for each level. The actual hierarchy, where you link the top menu, main menu, and submenu together, is built separately. For now, you just need these three levels defined as master data.

Controlling whether items and customers appear on the webshop

You also need a way to indicate whether an item or a customer should be created on the webshop. To handle this, you create an information code for it, for example Show on Web.

For this code, you create the values Yes and No. This gives you a simple way to control which items and customers are published to the webshop.
