When customers add products to their shopping cart in a Business Central webshop, they are actually building a sales quote behind the scenes. This connection between the cart and the sales quote gives you a practical way to help customers who are unsure whether they have picked the right product.

You find the customer’s quote under the sales quotes in Business Central. Web orders carry the salesperson code “Web”, so you can identify them quickly. You can change the item on the quote, add quantities, or apply a discount, and the customer sees the update as soon as they reload their webshop page.

Customers see prices in their own currency throughout the process.

How the shopping cart connects to the sales quote

When a customer adds items to the cart in the webshop, they are adding them to a sales quote in Business Central. The cart and the quote are the same thing seen from two sides. The customer sees a shopping basket, and you see a sales quote you can work with directly.

In a typical scenario, the customer logs on with their email address, browses the catalogue, and puts an item into the basket. They see the item in their basket priced in their own currency.

Helping a customer choose the right product

The real value shows up when a customer is unsure whether they picked the correct product and calls you for advice. Instead of guessing what they are looking at, you open their sales quote in Business Central and see exactly what they put in the cart.

To find it, navigate to the sales quotes and locate the customer. If you have many customers you can search, but in this example we already know it is Bike Master Chicago, so we go straight to that quote.

On the quote you can see the salesperson code “Web”, which is the dedicated salesperson code used for all web orders. This tells you the quote came in through the webshop. You also see the item the customer added to the cart.

Changing the product and adding quantities directly on the quote

When the customer is on the phone, you can correct their choice right there. If they picked the wrong bike, you can tell them they should choose a different model that better fits what they actually want, and update the quote to match.

You can also point out things the customer would not see on their own. For example, if there is a good discount when buying two units, you can add the extra quantity to the quote.

The customer only needs to reload their webshop page to see the changes. After the reload, they see the updated product and quantity in their cart, for instance two pieces of the recommended bike.
