This is what happens in the video

If you use both the Shortage on Demand Order app and the Assign Quantity app in Business Central, you can combine them to get a more accurate picture of what you can actually ship or produce. The Shortage on Demand Order app shows shortage status on production orders and sales orders. The Assign Quantity app lets you calculate and assign quantities to specific lines.

When both apps are installed, an extra option appears in the shortage reports. On the sales order shortage report, you get a checkmark labelled “use the assigned quantity from sales orders.” When you tick it, the report uses the assigned quantity instead of the normal quantity on the sales order. The same applies to production orders, where the field is called “use assigned quantity from production component lines.” This field only shows up if you also have the Assign Quantity app installed.

How the Shortage on Demand Order app works

The Shortage on Demand Order app gives you the shortage status on production orders and sales orders. It provides an overview of whether you can pick completely or ship completely on a sales order.

How the Assign Quantity app works

The Assign Quantity app lets you calculate and assign quantities. It assigns quantities for a specific line to make sure all the soft reservations are in place.

Combining the two apps in shortage reports

When both apps are in your system, you can use them together. On the sales order shortage report, tick “use the assigned quantity from sales orders” to base the calculation on the assigned quantity rather than the full sales order quantity.

On the production order side, open a firm planned production order and run the report through Functions and Auto Sampling. There you find the field “use assigned quantity from production component lines.” This field appears only when the Assign Quantity app is also installed.

Used together, the Assign Quantity app handles assignment at the line level to secure soft reservations, while the Shortage on Demand Order app gives you the overview of whether a sales order can be picked or shipped completely.

Q&A

Which two apps can be combined for shortage handling in Business Central?

You can combine the Shortage on Demand Order app, which shows shortage status on production and sales orders, with the Assign Quantity app, which calculates and assigns quantities to specific lines.

How do you make the shortage report use assigned quantities?

On the sales order shortage report, tick the checkmark “use the assigned quantity from sales orders.” The report then uses the assigned quantity instead of the normal sales order quantity. On production orders, use the field “use assigned quantity from production component lines.”

Why does the “use assigned quantity” field not appear in my report?

That field only displays if you have the Assign Quantity app installed alongside the Shortage on Demand Order app. Without the Assign Quantity app, the option will not show.
