This is what happens in the video

The status field on sales order lines and headers tells you whether a delivery date can be met. The field uses an option string that runs from no status, meaning nothing has been calculated yet, down through several levels to error, which is the worst result. The further down the scale you go, the worse the situation is. An error status means the calculation failed because of data errors on the lines. A no production or no stock status means there is no inventory and no way to produce the item. Higher statuses are better. Conflict stock means the item is in stock but will conflict with other orders, so not every line can be covered. On stock means the item is available and all requirements on the sales order lines can be met.

If you work with sales orders in Business Central, the status field is one of the quickest ways to see whether you can actually deliver what a customer has ordered. It sits on both the sales order line and the sales order header, and it tells you the result of an availability calculation in a single value.

How the status field works as an option string

The status field contains an option string. It runs from the top, where there is no status because nothing has been calculated yet, all the way down to error at the bottom. The logic is simple: the further down the list you land, the worse the status is, and the higher up you are, the better the situation looks.

What the different statuses mean

Here is what each status tells you about a line:

  • No status: The line has not been calculated yet.
  • Error: The calculation could not be completed because of data errors on the lines. This is one of the worst outcomes, since it blocks any meaningful result.
  • No production or no stock: There is nothing in stock and the item cannot be produced. This is the worst scenario from a delivery point of view, because there is no path to fulfilling the order.
  • Conflict stock: The item is in stock, but the available quantity will conflict with other orders. Not every sales order line can be covered, so some demand competes for the same stock.
  • On stock: The item is in stock and there is enough to meet all the requirements on the sales order lines. Everybody can have what they need.

Where to see the statuses

You can find an overview of all the statuses on the landing page for the app. That is the best place to check the full list and confirm what each value means in your own setup.

Q&A

What does the status field on a sales order line tell you?

It shows the result of an availability calculation as a single value. The value runs from no status at the top down to error at the bottom, and it tells you how well the line can be delivered.

What does an error status mean?

An error means the calculation could not be completed because of data errors on the lines. It is one of the worst results because it blocks any meaningful availability outcome.

What is the difference between conflict stock and on stock?

Conflict stock means the item is in stock but will conflict with other orders, so not every sales order line can be covered. On stock means the item is in stock and there is enough to meet all the requirements on the sales order lines.

What does no production or no stock mean?

It means there is nothing in stock and the item cannot be produced. This is the worst scenario, because there is no way to fulfil the order.
