If you use the Document Customizer app in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, you can print customer-specific master data information directly on your sales order confirmations. You set up a default report in Document Customizer, and it pulls the master data from the sales order line onto the printed document.

The app also works on production orders and purchase documents, so you can carry the same customer-specific information through those processes too.

If a long description does not appear correctly on the report, that comes down to your setup, not a limitation in the functionality. You can configure the report to include the long description with no trouble.

Printing master data on sales order confirmations

Once you have entered the sales order line and the master data information, either as a default value or by changing the master data on the line, you can print the document if you have the app called Document Customizer.

When you print the document, you set up the default report in Document Customizer. From there, the report takes the master data information and carries it through to the sales order print.

What the printed document includes

In a typical example, the printed sales order confirmation includes the specific customer information from the sales order line. For instance, the line might show that the gear was a Nexus 7.

You can also set it up so the long description on the report changes accordingly. If that does not happen, it is a question of setup rather than functionality. This can be done easily.

The result is that whatever the customer requires is straightforward to print on the sales order confirmation when you use the Document Customizer app.

Use on production orders and purchase documents

The same approach applies beyond sales orders. You can use Document Customizer in the same way on production orders and purchase documents, so the relevant master data information follows through to those documents as well.

Q&A

What does the Document Customizer app do in Business Central?

It lets you print master data information from the sales order line onto the printed sales order confirmation. You set up a default report in the app, and it pulls the relevant customer-specific information onto the document.

Can I print customer-specific descriptions on the sales order confirmation?

Yes. You can include specific customer information, such as the item description, on the printed confirmation. If a long description does not appear, that is a matter of setup and can be configured easily.

Does Document Customizer only work on sales orders?

No. It works the same way on production orders and purchase documents, so you can carry master data information through to those documents too.
