When you install the Assign Quantity app, it creates a default setup automatically. The setup uses sensible defaults, including automatic assignment of sales lines and a date window of minus two months to plus two months from the shipment date. You can change all of these settings, and you can recreate the standard setup at any time from the Item Availability General Setup page.

If you change the end date formula, you control how far ahead from the shipment date the system looks when it tries to assign quantity.

The reassign report respects existing soft assignments and locked assignments by default. The default setup does not assign with dimensions, and it displays messages such as warnings when you do not have enough on inventory.

Where to find the Assign Quantity setup

The default setup is created in the Item Availability General Setup, on the line called Assign Quantity. The reason it lives here is that the engine behind Assign Quantity is shared across several apps, including Graphical Inventory Profile, Reverse Planning and Flexible Forecasting.

To work with the setup, navigate into Assign Quantity. From here you can set up or re-set up the assigned quantities. If you press the setup action and a record already exists, the system asks whether you want to delete it. If you confirm, it deletes the existing record and recreates the standard setup for Assign Quantity.

What the standard setup contains

In the standard setup for Assign Quantity you can see all the check marks that are set as default. The important ones are on the assigning tab.

The default suggests that you automatically assign the sales line. This means you do not have to press the Assign Sales Line action manually. The system does it automatically when you enter a quantity.

Default date formulas and how far ahead the system looks

By default, the setup uses a start date formula of minus two months and an end date formula of plus two months. The system uses this window to check whether it is possible to assign quantity.

If you want the system to look further ahead, change the end date formula. This formula determines how far ahead from the shipment date the system calculates.

How the reassign report handles existing assignments and messages

When you run the report to reassign sales orders, it respects existing assignments by default. This applies to both soft assignments and locked assignments.

The default setup does not assign with dimensions. It also displays messages, so if you do not have enough on inventory, or there are other relevant messages, the system shows them.

All of these settings are defaults that you can change to fit your own needs.
