If you work with production orders in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, you can update the item reservations on all your released production orders in one operation. The tool for this is the “Assign Production Component Quantity” report, which recreates the assignment of available quantities to the components on your released production orders.

You control which orders the report covers by filtering on dates, production orders, and items. You also choose whether the report deletes or respects your existing soft and locked assignments.

Updating production component reservations across all released orders

Instead of going through each production order individually, you can run a single report that handles every released production order at once. The “Assign Production Component Quantity” report runs through all your released production orders and assigns available quantities to the components on those orders.

When you confirm the report, it recreates the assignment with the quantities you actually have available. This makes it a practical way to refresh your component reservations in bulk rather than one order at a time.

Filtering by date interval, production orders, and items

The report gives you control over which orders are included. You can enter a starting date and an ending date to define the interval you want to work with. On top of that, you can use the standard filters on production orders and on items, so you can narrow the run down to exactly the orders you care about.

Handling soft and locked assignments

Before the report recreates the assignments, you decide how it should treat your existing reservations. You can choose to:

  • Delete all the soft assignments, or keep and respect them
  • Apply the same choice to the locked assignments

This lets you keep the reservations you have deliberately locked in place while letting the report rework the rest.

Q&A

What does the Assign Production Component Quantity report do?

It runs through all your released production orders and recreates the assignment of available quantities to the components on those orders, so you can update reservations across many orders in one go.

Can I limit which production orders the report affects?

Yes. You can set a starting and ending date to define an interval, and you can also use the standard filters on production orders and on items to control which orders are included.

What happens to my existing reservations when I run the report?

You choose how the report treats them. For both soft and locked assignments, you can either delete all of them or keep and respect them, depending on what you prefer.
