The salesperson code in Business Central lets you track who internally is responsible for each subscription. You assign the code on the subscription, and it works with the standard salesperson statistics functionality.

For subscriptions, the salesperson code is most often used as a filtering option rather than for calculating commission. You can filter the subscription list by salesperson and let each person follow up on their own subscriptions.

Assigning a salesperson code to a subscription

If you want to keep track of who internally is responsible for a subscription, you use the salesperson code. You assign it directly on the subscription. For example, you can mark that your colleague Simon is responsible for a specific subscription.

The salesperson code works with the standard functionality for salesperson statistics. If you give your sales people kickback on their sales, that data is available. For subscriptions, though, the code is most commonly used simply to show who internally is responsible for the sale.

Filtering the subscription list by salesperson

When you open the subscription list, you can see how many subscriptions each salesperson is responsible for. If Simon, for example, has access to Business Central, he can add a filter to show only the subscriptions assigned to him.

That makes it easy for him to follow up on the subscriptions he owns, including updating changes and adding new ones. By filtering on his own salesperson code, he gets a focused list to work from.

Using the filtered list for follow-up and error checking

Once Simon has filtered the list to his own subscriptions, he can go through them and check for problems. If something looks wrong, for instance a subscription where no sales have been realised at all, he can open it and see what needs fixing.

Q&A

What is the salesperson code used for on a subscription?

It tracks who internally is responsible for the subscription. It works with standard salesperson statistics, but for subscriptions it is most commonly used as a filtering option to show who is responsible for the sale.

How can a salesperson follow up on their own subscriptions?

If they have access to Business Central, they can add a filter on their own salesperson code in the subscription list. This shows only the subscriptions they are responsible for, so they can update changes, add new ones, and check for errors.

Can the salesperson code be used for commission?

Yes. Because it works with the standard salesperson statistics functionality, you can use it if you give your sales people kickback on their sales. For subscriptions, though, it is more often used purely for filtering and responsibility tracking.
