At some point, you will have to process the collected time into a job journal or timesheet, and you will do that in from the time collector from actions and process collected time.

The time collector in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central lets you turn tracked time into a job journal line or a timesheet line. You process the collected time by opening the time collector, going to Actions, and choosing Process collected time.

The processed line carries over the correct description and the correct number of hours. The system also stores the start and stop entries behind the line, so you keep a record of when the time was registered.

You can process several lines at once. As a manager, you can process collected time for everyone on your team. If you are set up for it, you can also process your own time. This is standard functionality.

Processing collected time into a job journal or timesheet

At some point you need to move the time you have collected into a job journal or a timesheet. You do this from the time collector by going to Actions and selecting Process collected time.

As an example, say you have collected one hour and fifteen minutes. Before processing, you can check your job journal to see the current state. Depending on your setup, you work with either a timesheet or job journals. If you use job journals and already have three lines, processing the collected time adds a fourth line with the description and the hours filled in.

You select the line you want and choose Process collected time. Once it is processed, you open your job journal or timesheet and the new line is there with the correct description coming from the collected time and the correct amount of hours.

What happens behind the line

Besides creating the journal or timesheet line, the system saves the start and stop entries beneath it. That means you keep the underlying detail of when the time was started and stopped, not just the total.

Processing for yourself, your team, and multiple lines

You can process collected time as a manager for all the employees on your team, or you can process your own time if you are set up for it. You are not limited to one line at a time. You can process many lines in one go.

Q&A

How do you process collected time in Business Central?

Open the time collector, go to Actions, and choose Process collected time. Select the line or lines you want to process. This creates a line in your job journal or timesheet, depending on your setup.

Does the time collector go into a job journal or a timesheet?

It depends on your setup. If you are set up with job journals, the time is processed into a job journal line. If you are set up with a timesheet, it goes into a timesheet line.

What information is transferred when you process collected time?

The correct description from the collected time and the correct number of hours are transferred to the new line. The system also saves the start and stop entries beneath the line.

Can a manager process time for the whole team?

Yes. As a manager you can process collected time for all employees on your team. You can also process your own time if you are set up for it, and you can process many lines at once.
