If you’re working on jobs using materials, and you are using the functionality with my jobs where you consider which job you’re working on, on which job task number, you can shortcut the material registration by the register material, my task function.
If you work with jobs and register materials in Business Central, you can speed up the registration process by using the My Jobs functionality together with the Register Material on My Task function. This article explains how the shortcut works and when it makes sense to use it.
The Register Material on My Task function lets you register material consumption directly against the job task you are working on without opening the full job journal. You select the job, state the item number and quantity, choose the bin code, and the material flows straight into your job journal.
You need to have the My Jobs setup in place, where you define which job and which job task number you are working on. Once that is configured, the registration becomes a quick, repeatable action.
Using the My Jobs functionality for material registration
If you are working on jobs that use materials, and you use the My Jobs functionality where you keep track of which job and which job task number you are working on, you can shortcut the material registration with the Register Material on My Task function.
You click the function and select the job. As an example, you might pick the Touring Bike job. Then you state the details for the material you are consuming.
What you register on the line
For each material you register, you fill in the following:
- Item number for the material you are consuming
- Quantity, for example six pieces
- Bin code you are picking from, if you are set up on a location that uses bins
- Item description
Once you confirm, the material flows into your job journal. The six pieces you just registered appear on the last line of the journal, ready for posting.
When this shortcut is worth using
This is an easy way to add or register material for a specific task if you already have My Jobs set up. Instead of navigating to the job journal every time, you register the consumption directly against the task you are working on, which saves clicks and keeps the registration tied to the right job and task.
