When you bundle sales order lines or transfer order lines into a container, you can calculate the total measurements and value for that container directly from the container card. This gives you the combined net weight, gross weight, volume, and number of packages based on the order documents and item information. You can use this to check whether your goods fit inside a chosen container type before you ship.

For example, a 20-foot container holds about 36.5 cubic metres. If your bundled orders add up to 21 cubic metres, you can see at a glance that there is still room to spare.

Calculating container content and value from the container card

Once you have bundled sales order lines or transfer order lines into a container, you can calculate the measurements and value for that container. From the container card, you use the function to calculate content and value.

This calculates the sum of:

  • Net weight
  • Gross weight
  • Volume
  • Total number of packages

All of this information comes from the order documents you have entered, which in turn draw on the item data behind each order line. It gives you a complete overview of what the container holds.

Checking whether your goods fit the container

The calculation helps you decide whether a container type has enough capacity for your bundled orders. Say you bundle one transfer order and three sales orders, and you choose a 20-foot container. A 20-foot container has a capacity of about 36.5 cubic metres.

If the calculated volume of your bundled order lines comes to 21 cubic metres, you can see there is enough space in the container. The system sums everything up from all the order lines, so you know the total before you commit to the shipment.

Q&A

What does the container card calculate?

It calculates the sum of net weight, gross weight, volume, and the total number of packages for all order lines bundled into the container. The figures come from the order documents and the item data behind each line.

How do I know if my goods fit in the container?

Compare the calculated volume against the capacity of the container type you have chosen. A 20-foot container holds about 36.5 cubic metres, so if your bundled orders total 21 cubic metres, there is still room to spare.

Which order types can I bundle into a container?

You can bundle both sales order lines and transfer order lines. For example, you can combine one transfer order with three sales orders in the same container.
