With sales container handling, you can handle sales orders, transfer orders, and even warehouse shipments, so from my outbound container list, I could enter a container and in here I can see that on this container, I have assigned different sales orders and transfer orders.

Sales container handling in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central lets you collect sales orders, transfer orders, and warehouse shipments on a single container before you post them out.

You assign orders to a container in two ways. For locations using basic setup, you assign the orders directly on the open order. For warehouse locations, you add the order on the order itself and handle it through the warehouse shipment, where you can register details such as gross weight on the shipment.

You can mix different order types on the same sales container. When you post the container, the posted lines appear in the lower part of the window.

What sales container handling covers

Sales container handling gives you one place to manage outbound goods across several document types. From the outbound container list you open a container, and inside it you see the sales orders and transfer orders that have been assigned to that container. This makes it possible to keep track of everything going out together, rather than handling each order in isolation.

Assigning orders depending on the location setup

How you assign an order to a container depends on how the location is configured.

  • Basic locations: Everything is entered directly on the open order. You assign the order to the container straight from the order itself.
  • Warehouse locations: The order is also added on the order, but it is then handled on the warehouse shipment. On the shipment you can register additional information, for example the gross weight.

Mixing order types on one container

Because the assignment works across these document types, you can mix orders from different types on the same sales container. A single container can hold both sales orders and transfer orders at the same time.

Posting the container

When you post the sales container, the posted lines show up in the window at the bottom, so you can see exactly what was handled.
