If you work with containers in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, you can import sales order lines directly from the container card. This saves you from adding lines one by one when you want to load several open sales orders into the same container.

You use the Get Sales Order Lines function from the container card. The system filters on the customer automatically if the customer is already added to the container. It imports the open sales order lines with the container code applied and the outstanding quantity included.

You can also filter the import on sales order number or other fields on the sales order line. This lets you add three different sales orders to one container in a single operation.

If you need to undo this, you can remove the container lines again through a batch job.

Importing sales order lines from the container card

From the container card, you have a menu option called Get Sales Order Lines. This is the starting point when you want to pull open sales order lines into a container, whether you are working with one customer or several.

When you run the function, you can filter on the customer. If a customer is already added to the container, that filter is filled in by default. The function then imports the open sales order lines, applies the new container code to them, and brings in the outstanding quantity for each line.

This is a fast way of importing many lines at once, especially when you want to combine different sales orders into a single container.

Filtering on sales order number and other fields

You are not limited to filtering on the customer. You can also filter the import on the sales order number or on any of the other fields available on the sales order line.

If you have three different sales orders that you want to add to one container, you can handle all of them in one go through this batch job instead of working through each order separately.

Removing sales order lines from a container

The same approach works in reverse. If you need to take some lines out of a container again, you can remove the container lines through a batch job.
