How do you use assisted setup to create a job?
If I wish to save time in the process of creating jobs, I can use the assisted setup, I go to actions, new, and choose job. The system will now ask if you wish to create it from an existing job.
This is what happens in the video
If you create new jobs in Business Central regularly, the assisted setup can save you a lot of manual work. Instead of filling in every field by hand, you can build a new job from an existing one and let the system copy over the structure for you.
You start the assisted setup by going to Actions, then New, and choosing Job. When you create a job from an existing job, the system copies the job task numbers, and applies the description and customer you enter along the way.
If you have set up a number series in the job setup, the system assigns the new job number automatically. You do not have to type it in yourself.
When you choose a customer, Business Central populates all relevant information from the customer card. You can decide whether to copy quantities and dimensions from the original job, and you can limit the copy to a specific range of job task numbers.
Starting the assisted setup for a new job
To save time when creating jobs, you can use the assisted setup. Go to Actions, choose New, and then select Job.
The system asks whether you want to create the job from an existing job. If you choose No, it creates a blank job and you fill in everything manually. If you choose Yes and click Next, the system takes you through the guided process instead.
Automatic job numbering from the number series
When you continue with Yes and Next, the system automatically assigns a number to your new job. This works because the number series has been set up in the job setup. You do not need to assign the number yourself.
After the number is assigned, you add a description and a customer, then click Next.
Copying job tasks from an existing job
The assisted setup then moves you to a page based on the standard copy job function. In the Copy from field, you choose which job to copy from. Your new job already appears in the list, and you can choose to copy from any other job.
You can enter a range of job task numbers in the From and To fields. If you leave these fields blank, the system copies all job tasks. The Copy to field is your new job number.
Before you run the copy, you decide whether to copy quantities and dimensions from the original job. When you are ready, click OK. The system confirms that the job was successfully copied, and you click OK again.
What the new job contains after copying
Once the copy is done, you have a new job in place. The copy function has brought over the job task numbers from the original job, and the new job carries the description and customer you entered during the setup.
Because you selected a customer, the system also populates all relevant information from the customer card. The new job is ready to work with, built on the structure of an existing one but with its own number and details.
