Where do you overview the job?

If I want to see more details on the job, I need to open the job card.

This is what happens in the video

If you work with projects in Business Central, the job card is where you manage the full setup of a job. This article walks through what you find on the job card, how it fits into the project hierarchy, and what you need in place before you can post anything to a job.

The job card is level one in the project structure. It holds the job number, customer and contact details, and the overall settings for the job. The job tasks sit at level two and represent the phases of a project.

You need at least one job task of the type Posting before you can post anything to a job. Without it, posting is not possible.

Opening the job card to see the full setup

The jobs list gives you a quick overview, but it only shows a limited set of fields. To work with the details of a single job, open the job card. Go to Jobs, find the job in the list, and click into it.

On the job card you get more information than the list provides, including extra details in the fact box. From here you can set up the whole job.

What you manage on the job card

The job number is the ID for the job and it has to be unique. Alongside the number, you can see and set the customer and contact details and the rest of the job’s general information.

The job card also has separate tabs for postings, duration settings, foreign trade, and Work-in-Progress. Each of these areas is covered in its own video.

The job tasks and the project hierarchy

The job card is level one in the model. The lines on the job card show the second level, the job tasks. These job tasks are the phases of a project, and they are not visible from the jobs list.

To post anything to a job, you need at least one job task of the type Posting. This is a requirement, so make sure you set one up before you expect to post entries to the job.
