This is what happens in the video
The card view in Business Central is where you work with a single record, such as an item, a customer, or a vendor. Knowing how the card is structured makes it faster to find fields, edit data, and read related information.
When you open an entity from a list or create a new one, Business Central opens it as a card. The card shows the entity number and name at the top, an action bar with the actions you can perform, tabs that group related fields, and FactBoxes on the right-hand side that show related and aggregated data.
You can expand and collapse tabs by clicking the tab header. Use Show more to reveal additional fields, and note that promoted fields stay visible even when a tab is collapsed. You can hide the FactBox pane, and you can switch the card between edit mode and read-only mode.
How a card opens in Business Central
When you open an entity from a list view, or create a new entity, you start in a card view. As an example, the item card opens with the number of the entity and the name shown first. This gives you a quick way to confirm you are working on the right record.
The action bar and what you can do on a card
Below the entity number and name, you have the action bar. This holds the actions you can perform on the card. From here you can also create a new card or delete the current entry.
Tabs group related fields
Under the action bar, the card is divided into tabs. Each tab groups fields that belong together, so related information stays in one place.
You expand and collapse tabs by clicking the header of the tab. On a tab, you can also click Show more, and more fields will be shown. This keeps the card clean while still giving you access to detailed fields when you need them.
Promoted fields stay visible on collapsed tabs
On some tabs, certain fields are defined as promoted. Promoted fields are shown even when the tab is collapsed. For example, on the Cost & Posting tab, the promoted fields remain visible so you can read the key values without expanding the tab.
FactBoxes show related and aggregated data
On the right-hand side of the card, you have FactBoxes. A FactBox can show aggregated data and other relevant information connected to the card you are on. This gives you context without leaving the record.
If you need more space, you can hide the FactBoxes by selecting the Collapse FactBox pane.
Edit mode and read-only mode
At the top of the card, you can see whether the card is in read-only or in edit mode. In edit mode you can change the data on the card. In read-only mode the card is locked for viewing only. You can switch between the two so you only edit when you intend to.
