How to use inspect pages and data to view all information on customers in Business Central?

Sometimes when working in Business Central, you know that you have entered more information than what you can see on the screen and for that purpose we could use inspect pages and data.

This is what happens in the video

Business Central often holds more information about a record than what is visible on the screen. The Inspect pages and data feature lets you see every field in the underlying table, including data that isn’t shown on the standard page layout.

You open it from the Help menu by choosing Help and support, then Inspect pages and data. A panel appears on the right-hand side of the screen showing all the fields in the table for the record you have selected.

The panel also shows which extensions affect the page and whether any page filters are applied that you can’t see immediately.

If you want to view all the data at once instead of one record at a time, you can use the View table option to open the full table directly.

What Inspect pages and data does in Business Central

When you work in Business Central, you sometimes know that you’ve entered more information than what the screen displays. Inspect pages and data solves that by giving you a complete view of the table behind the page.

Open your customer list as an example. From the Help menu, press Help and support, then Inspect pages and data. A panel opens on the right-hand side of the screen showing every field in the table for the record you’re looking at, for instance customer number 10,000.

You can scroll down through the panel and see all the fields on the customer table. The list keeps going, well beyond what the standard page shows. Select a different customer, and the panel updates with that customer’s information.

Seeing extensions and hidden page filters

Besides the table fields, the panel tells you whether any extensions affect the page. On a Danish setup, for example, you’ll see the relevant Danish extensions listed. It also shows whether any page filters are applied that aren’t visible on the page itself.

Viewing the full table at once

If you want a complete overview of all the data rather than inspecting one record at a time, press View table. This takes you to the customer table, where you get the full information for all customers in one place.
