This is what happens in the video

Business Central runs in a web client, which means you can access it from any device with a web browser. With named users, you can be logged in on several devices at the same time.

The web client adapts its layout to the device you are using. On a desktop, you get a layout optimised for a large screen. On a phone, the same data is squeezed into a narrow view that works but is not comfortable to use.

For a better experience on a phone, you can install the Business Central app, which is optimised for small screens. Changes you make in the app appear in the desktop web client as soon as you refresh, so you can move between devices and work on the same documents.

Accessing Business Central from any device with a web browser

The web client makes it possible to open Business Central on many different devices. Any device with a web browser can log on to Business Central. With named users, you can stay logged in on several devices simultaneously, which gives you flexibility in how and where you work.

The web client layout adapts to your device

When you log on to the web client on a desktop, the layout is optimised for desktop mode. If you open a sales order, you can see all your data laid out clearly on the large screen.

You can open the same web client on a phone. Because the screen is small, the layout is squeezed tightly together. If you open the same sales order on the phone, you see exactly the same information as on the desktop, but the view was designed for a bigger screen and is harder to work with on a phone.

Using the Business Central app on a phone for a better experience

To get a view optimised for a phone, you can install the Business Central app. The app lets you edit your data comfortably on a small screen.

For example, you can open the Business Central app, go to the sales order, find the order you want to edit, and press the edit button. From there you can add a new line, type in the item number you want to add, and enter the quantity. The line is then added to your sales order directly from the phone.

Changes sync across all your devices

Anything you do in the app shows up everywhere else. If you go back to the desktop web client and refresh the order, the new item appears on the document. This makes it possible to work in the system across several devices and pick up where you left off, no matter which device you use.

Q&A

Which devices can access Business Central?

Any device with a web browser can log on to Business Central through the web client. With named users, you can be logged in on several devices at the same time.

Why does Business Central look cramped on a phone in the web browser?

The web client layout is optimised for the device you use. On a desktop it spreads out for a large screen, but on a phone the same data is squeezed tightly together because the layout was designed for a bigger screen.

How do I get a better experience on a phone?

Install the Business Central app, which is optimised for small screens. You can open a sales order, edit it, add lines, and enter quantities directly in the app.

Do changes made in the Business Central app appear on my desktop?

Yes. When you make a change in the app and then refresh the order in the desktop web client, the change appears on the document. You can work on the same data across several devices.
