This is what happens in the video
On the item card in Business Central, you find a set of actions aimed at production. They are all gathered in the bill of material and production area. There are also functions for planners, but those are covered separately. This article walks through what the production-related functions on the item card do and how you use them.
Production BOM access from the item card
If an item has a production BOM, you can open the production bill of material directly from the item card. This shows you the component list set up for that item. From here you see exactly which components go into producing the item.
Where-used: finding which items a component goes into
The Where-used function answers the opposite question: where does this item go into. If you stand on item 1100, the Where-used view shows all the production bills of material that include item 1100 as a component. This is useful when you need to understand the impact of a component before you change it.
Calculate standard cost for production items
The Calculate Standard Cost function is normally used by the finance department. It calculates the standard cost on an item that is set up as a production item. You run it directly from the item card.
Structure view: combining the BOM and the routing
The structure view gives you a clear overview of how an item is built. It mixes the routing and the bill of material in one hierarchy, calculated from the item and down through the levels.
If you select item 1000, you see the top-level item and all the items below it in the hierarchy. For a bike, this shows you how the bike is put together, level by level.
You can collapse and expand the parts of the hierarchy you want to focus on. If you stand on the line for the front wheel, you can collapse just that part to hide its sub-components, and open it again when you need it. You can also expand or collapse everything in one go.
These are the functions on the item card aimed at production people. The structure view in particular gives you a single, readable picture of the bill of material and routing combined.
