This is what happens in the video
In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central you can convert a catalog item into a normal item directly from the item catalog. This article explains how the conversion works and what happens automatically when you do it.
To convert a catalog item, open the catalog item card and click Create Item. Business Central creates the new item using the number series defined in the catalog item setup.
When the item is created, Business Central automatically generates an item cross-reference record. This record links the vendor’s item number to your new item number for the vendor of the item.
Converting catalog items into normal items in Business Central
The item catalog in Business Central lets you keep track of items you can buy from your vendors without having them set up as full items in your system. When you actually need to use one of these, you can convert the catalog item into a normal item manually.
You do this by opening the catalog item card and pressing Create Item. The item is then created based on the number series that has been defined in the catalog item setup, so you do not have to assign the number yourself.
Finding the new item number after conversion
Once the item has been created, you can see which item number the catalog item has been converted into. Go to the General tab on the catalog item card and choose Show more. The item number now appears there, so you can quickly trace the connection between the original catalog item and the new normal item.
Automatic item cross-reference for the vendor
When you create the item, Business Central automatically creates an item cross-reference record. This record is set up for the vendor of the item and links the vendor’s item number with your new item number.
This means that when you later buy the item from that vendor, the connection between their item number and yours is already in place. You do not need to set it up manually.
