Working with Master Data Synchronization Templates for Subscribers

When you work with master data synchronization, the templates control which data gets sent from the master company to the subscriber companies. If you need to manage how a specific subscriber receives its data, the template is where you start. Here is a walkthrough of the actions and related information you have available on a template.

Synchronizing Record Data from a Template

Open the template that is relevant for the subscriber. There are not many actions tied directly to the subscriber, but under Actions you have the option to synchronize record data. This lets you synchronize only the record data that is relevant for that particular template, instead of running a full synchronization across everything.

Viewing Records Sent to the Subscriber

Under Related, you can see the record data. This is the list of records that have been sent from the master into the subscriber, so you get a clear overview of what has actually moved across.

Understanding Obsolete Record IDs

You will also find obsolete record IDs under the related information. These come into play when a template has a filter applied to it. If a record falls out of the filter, the system sends an obsolete ID into the subscriber. The record is then deleted as soon as everything has been successfully synchronized, so you do not end up with data in the subscriber that no longer belongs there.

Checking Log Entries for Errors and Successful Synchronizations

In the log entries, you can see a list of errors that resulted from the data synchronization. This is your first place to look if something did not go through as expected.

You can also set it up so that log entries are created every time you run a valid synchronization, not just when errors occur. With that setting, the log entries will show the successful synchronizations as well, which gives you a full record of what happened.

Q&A

What does the synchronize record data action do on a template?

It synchronizes only the record data that is relevant for that specific template, rather than running a full synchronization across all data.

Where can you see which records have been sent from the master to the subscriber?

Under the Related section on the template, where the record data shows the records that have been sent from the master into the subscriber.

What are obsolete record IDs?

They occur when a template has a filter and a record falls out of that filter. The system sends an obsolete ID into the subscriber, and the record is deleted once everything has been successfully synchronized.

Can you log successful synchronizations as well as errors?

Yes. By default the log entries show errors from the data synchronization, but you can set it up so that log entries are created for every valid synchronization too.
