Presenter: Dennis Schumacher, Sr. Business Central Cons.

Global Master Data Sync gives you a central way to manage and distribute master data templates across multiple Business Central environments. The Global Master Administrator role provides a Role Center with tiles that show you the status of your templates and the partners you synchronize data to.

The template tiles tell you how many templates are under development, how many are pending approval, and how many are released and ready to synchronize. A template under development can still be edited. A template pending approval is finished and ready to be released, but is held back so you can release several templates in one batch. A released template can be synchronized to your partners.

The partner tiles show how many active partners you can synchronize to and how many are on hold. You set a partner on hold when you have created it but are not ready to send data, or when you want to postpone new changes until the partner is set back to active.

The Data Templates Subscribers tile shows the total number of template subscriptions across all partners. If you have one template and three partners subscribing to it, the number is three.

The Global Master Administrator Role Center

Global Master Data Sync uses a role called Global Master Administrator. This role gives you a Role Center with a set of tiles that are relevant for managing master data. The tiles are grouped into sections so you can quickly see the status of your templates and your partners.

Data Template Tiles: Development, Pending Approval and Released

The first section covers your data templates, and it is split into three tiles.

The development templates tile shows the number of templates that are currently under development. These templates can still be edited.

The pending approval tile shows the templates that have been created and are finished, but are not yet released. You set a template to pending approval when it is ready to be released, but you are waiting to release several templates in one batch instead of one at a time.

The released templates tile shows the number of templates you have created that are released and can be synchronized to your partners.

Partner Tiles: Active and On Hold

The partner section shows how many partners you can work with.

The active partners tile shows the partners you can synchronize data to. In this example there are three active partners.

The on hold partners tile shows partners you have created but put on hold. There are two common reasons to put a partner on hold. The first is that you have just created the partner and are not yet ready to synchronize data to it. The second is that you need to postpone new changes to that partner, so you set it on hold and wait until it is set back to active before synchronizing new changes.

Understanding the Data Template Subscribers Count

The data template subscribers tile shows the total number of template subscriptions across all your partners. In this example the number is 411, which means the three partners together subscribe to 411 templates.

The count adds up across partners. If you have one template and three partners, and all three partners subscribe to that template, the subscriber count for that template is three.

Q&A

What is the difference between a template under development and a pending approval template?

A template under development can still be edited. A pending approval template is finished and ready to be released, but is held back so you can release several templates in one batch.

Why would you put a partner on hold?

You put a partner on hold for one of two reasons. Either you have just created the partner and are not yet ready to synchronize data to it, or you need to postpone new changes and want to wait until the partner is set back to active before synchronizing.

What does the data template subscribers number mean?

It is the total number of template subscriptions across all your partners. If three partners each subscribe to the same single template, the count for that template is three.

Which template status can be synchronized to partners?

Only released templates can be synchronized. Templates under development or pending approval are not yet available for synchronization.
