Presenter: Dennis Schumacher, Sr. Business Central Cons.

When you work with master and subscriber companies in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, you can synchronize records from the master company down to your subscriber companies. This article walks through how the update and synchronization of received files works, what status information you get along the way, and how to confirm that the synchronization completed successfully.

The synchronization time depends on the number of records sent. A small batch finishes quickly, while a larger volume of records takes longer.

After the synchronization runs, you can verify the result by checking how many records were imported and confirming that no records failed to synchronize.

Synchronizing received files from the master company to a subscriber

In the subscriber company, you want to update and synchronize the files received from the master company. In this scenario, the files have already been downloaded to the subscriber but have not yet been updated.

When you run the database synchronization, the data that has already been received is processed. The system shows you the number of records that have not yet been synchronized, so you can see what still needs to be handled before the data is fully in place.

Running the update and synchronize task

The task you run stays the same regardless of how much data is involved. In the subscriber company, you go to the task for updating and synchronizing record data and start it.

How long the task takes depends on the number of records that were sent. A short batch completes in a short time, and a larger number of records takes longer.

Confirming the synchronization completed successfully

Once the synchronization finishes, you can review the result. In this example, five new templates were imported. Nothing failed to synchronize, which means everything was done successfully.

Checking this confirmation is worth the few seconds it takes. It tells you the data made it from the master company to the subscriber as expected, and it flags any records that did not synchronize so you can act on them.

Q&A

How long does the synchronization take in Business Central?

The time depends on the number of records that were sent. A small number of records finishes quickly, while a larger volume takes longer.

How do I know the synchronization between master and subscriber companies was successful?

After the synchronization runs, you can see how many records were imported and whether any records failed to synchronize. If nothing failed, the synchronization completed successfully.

Where do I run the update and synchronize task?

You run it in the subscriber company. Go to the task for updating and synchronizing record data and start it. The task is the same regardless of how many records are involved.
