If you work with multiple companies in Business Central, the Global Master Data Sync solution lets you keep master data consistent across them. The Global Master Administrator page is where a subscriber company manages everything related to receiving and applying data from a master company.
As a subscriber, you monitor synchronization through job queue entries, data templates, log entries, and ISI-fier logs. You apply incoming data using two main task actions: import ISI-fier logs and update and synchronize record data.
If you synchronize within the same database, you only need to update and synchronize record data. You do not need to import ISI-fier logs.
You configure how synchronization behaves in your company under the Global Master Setup.
What the Global Master Administrator page does for a subscriber
The Global Master Administrator page collects all the functions a subscriber company needs to receive and apply master data. It gives you one place to monitor incoming data, check logs, and run the tasks that update your own company with data from the master company.
Monitoring job queue entries
At the top of the page you find the menu point for job queues. From here you can go to the job queue entries, see the log, and handle everything else related to the job queues that drive the synchronization in the background.
Data templates from the master company
Under data templates you can see the templates that have been imported from your master company. These define how data is structured when it comes into your subscriber company.
Reviewing log entries and synchronization results
The log entries give you a view of everything that has happened during data synchronization. Normally a log entry is created because of an error, but you can also set it up to log successful synchronizations. Whether you get logs on successful runs depends on what you have configured in the Global Master Setup.
ISI-fier logs and subscriber overview
The subscriber ISI-fier logs give you an overview of all the ISI-fiers you have received from a master company. This is where you confirm that the data packages have actually arrived in your company.
Global Master record data and record actions
On the page you have two key actions for incoming data.
The first is Global Master record data, which gives you an overview of all the record data you have received from your master company.
The second is Global Master record actions, which gives you an overview of all the record actions you have received from the master company and that should be executed in your company. Here you can see whether a record was applied successfully, or whether it was synchronized with an error that you need to handle.
Tasks for applying data in the subscriber company
The task section for the subscriber contains the actions you run to apply incoming data. First there is import ISI-fier logs. If you synchronize within the same database, you can skip this step and only need to update and synchronize record data.
The action update and synchronize record data applies the received record data that you have gotten from your master company to your own company.
Configuring synchronization in the Global Master Setup
Under setup you have the Global Master Setup. This is where you configure the different settings for how synchronization works in your company, including options such as whether to log successful synchronizations.
Q&A
What is the Global Master Administrator page used for?
It is the central page in Global Master Data Sync where a subscriber company manages receiving and applying master data. It collects job queues, data templates, log entries, ISI-fier logs, record data and actions, tasks, and setup in one place.
Do I need to import ISI-fier logs when synchronizing within the same database?
No. If you synchronize within the same database, you only need to update and synchronize record data. The import ISI-fier logs step is not required.
What is the difference between Global Master record data and Global Master record actions?
Global Master record data shows all the record data you have received from your master company. Global Master record actions shows the record actions that should be executed in your company, including whether each one ran successfully or failed with an error.
How do I see whether a synchronization failed?
Check the log entries, which normally record errors during synchronization. In Global Master record actions you can also see whether a record was applied successfully or synchronized with an error you need to handle.
Can I log successful synchronizations, not just errors?
Yes. You can configure logging of successful synchronizations in the Global Master Setup. By default, log entries are typically created only when an error occurs.
