This is what happens in the video

The third forecast view in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central shows the forecast for many items within a single period. You control which items appear using item filters, location filters, and selections in the view header.

If you do not enable “include items for forecast”, the view only shows items inside your item filter that already contain a forecast. Enable “show all items in this period” to also display items without a forecast, so you can quickly add forecast figures to new items.

The forecast entry is always created on the first date of the selected period. If your period starts on 1 September, that is the date the forecast quantity is registered.

How the third forecast view displays items in a single period

The third forecast view shows the forecast for many items, but only within one period at a time. The items that appear depend on your settings.

If you have not selected the “include items for forecast” option, the view calculates only the items within your item filter that already contain a forecast, and displays those lines. This keeps the view focused on items you are already forecasting.

Adding forecast to new items in the period

If you select “show all items in this period” and update the forecast, the view also shows items that do not yet contain a forecast, as long as they fall within the filters set in the header. This gives you an easy way to add forecast on new items.

For example, if you want to forecast 50 on a particular item, you simply enter the figure and it is done. Adding forecast this way is quick and straightforward.

Forecast entries are always created on the period start date

When you add a forecast figure, it is placed on the first date of the period. If the period starts in September, the forecast is registered on 1 September. After you update again, the 50 you entered becomes part of your forecast on 1 September, which is the starting date.

You can confirm this by drilling down on the entry to see the starting date. Keep in mind that the forecast entry is always made on the starting date of the period.

Filters and selections for items and locations

This view offers a wide range of filters for items, locations, and selections, so you can define exactly which items you want to search for. That makes it easy to build a view covering only some of your items.

The selection functionality is particularly powerful and can be quite complex. You can add selections based on items, specific campaigns, specific dimensions, and more, which lets you narrow the view to precisely the data you need.
