This is what happens in the video
If you work with dimensions on your documents in Business Central, you probably want those dimensions to follow the document when it is sent between your companies. With the intercompany functionality, this is straightforward to set up, as long as your dimensions and dimension values match in both companies.
To enable it, set the dimension mapping to 1-to-1 in the intercompany setup, mark the dimensions you want to share as IC dimensions, and repeat the same configuration in the other company. After that, the dimensions are transferred automatically whenever they are used on a document.
When you can map dimensions one to one
The simple mapping works when your dimensions and your dimension values are identical in both companies. If the same dimension codes and values exist on both sides, you do not need to do any complicated conversion. You just tell the system to treat them as intercompany dimensions, and the values are passed along with the document.
Setting up dimension mapping in the intercompany app
Start in the intercompany app setup. Here you will find the dimension mapping option. Set this to 1-to-1.
Next, go to your dimensions and select the ones you want to share. Click Use as IC dimensions. This marks the dimension so it is included when documents move between companies.
Then do exactly the same in your supply company. Once both sides are configured, the dimensions will be sent between the companies automatically when you use them on your documents.
What happens after setup
When the configuration is in place in both companies, the dimensions and their values are transferred along with the documents. You do not have to handle them manually each time. This keeps your dimension data consistent across the companies without extra work.
Q&A
How do I send dimensions between companies in Business Central?
Use the intercompany functionality. In the intercompany app setup, set the dimension mapping to 1-to-1, mark the relevant dimensions with Use as IC dimensions, and apply the same setup in the other company. The dimensions are then sent automatically when used on documents.
When can I use 1-to-1 dimension mapping?
You can use 1-to-1 mapping when both the dimensions and their dimension values are identical in both companies. If the codes and values match, no conversion is needed.
Do I need to configure both companies?
Yes. You set the dimension mapping to 1-to-1 and mark the IC dimensions in your own company, and then repeat the same configuration in the supply company. The transfer only works once both sides are set up.
