This is what happens in the video

When you set up an intercompany partner in Business Central and want to use the web service connection, you need to enter a handful of values manually. If you use the wizard when you install the app, these fields are filled in automatically. But it helps to know what goes where, so you can check or correct the setup yourself.

The key takeaway is that all the information you need comes from the web service SOAP URL on your intercompany partner. You split that URL into three parts: the web service URL, the web service port, and the web service instance. You then add the company name, user, and password for the other company.

Where to find the web service information

Start by going to the Web Services page in the partner company. Find the relevant web service entry at the top of the list and copy the SOAP URL. This SOAP URL contains all the information you need to connect to your intercompany partner.

A practical tip is to copy the SOAP URL into a notepad first. That way you can see the full path and pick out each part without losing track of where one value ends and the next begins.

Splitting the SOAP URL into the right fields

Once you have the SOAP URL in front of you, you split it into three values on the intercompany partner setup:

  • Web Service URL is the first part of the path.
  • Web Service Port is the four digits in the URL.
  • Web Service Instance is the instance name from the URL.

You type these three values into the corresponding fields on the intercompany partner.

Adding company, user, and password

After the URL is split into its three parts, you fill in the last fields:

  • Web Service Company is the company name for your other company.
  • Web Service User is the user you are connecting with.
  • Password is the password for that user.

With those values in place, the web service connection on your intercompany partner is set up and ready to use.

Q&A

Do I have to set up the intercompany web service manually?

No. If you use the wizard when you install the app, the web service fields are filled in automatically. The manual steps are useful when you want to check or correct the setup yourself.

Where do I get the information for the intercompany web service setup?

You find it on the Web Services page in the partner company. Copy the SOAP URL from the relevant web service entry, since it contains everything you need to connect.

How do I split the SOAP URL into the setup fields?

The first part of the path goes into the Web Service URL field, the four digits go into the Web Service Port field, and the instance name goes into the Web Service Instance field.

What else do I need besides the URL?

You enter the company name for your other company in the Web Service Company field, the user you are connecting with in the Web Service User field, and that user’s password in the Password field.
