The ad hoc bin count function in your warehouse solution lets you count the actual item quantity on a specific bin and register corrections right away. You select the bin, pick an item, compare the calculated quantity against what you physically count, and register the difference. The function loops through the items on the bin, so you can count a full bin quickly. You do not need to create inventory journals first. It is a fast, on-the-spot count you can do while standing at the bin.

What the ad hoc bin count does

With the ad hoc bin count, you can count the item quantity on a specific bin directly. Say you are standing at bin 12.05. The bin content shows item 1100 with 8 pieces, item 1200 with 12 pieces, and item 1300 with 6 pieces.

You select the bin code and then the item number. For each item, the function shows the calculated quantity from inventory next to the quantity you actually count. If item 1200 shows a calculated quantity of 12, but you only find 11 on the shelf, you enter 11 and register the count.

Counting a full bin item by item

After you register one item, the function loops to the next, so you can work through the whole bin. You move on to item 1100, which is also on the bin. If the physical quantity is 6 instead of the expected 8, you enter 6 and register it.

This makes it easy to count a full bin one item at a time, using a single simple function.

No inventory journals required

You do not have to set up inventory journals before you start. The ad hoc bin count is exactly that: an on-the-spot count you can run whenever you need it, directly at the bin.

Q&A

What is the ad hoc bin count used for?

It lets you count the actual item quantity on a specific bin and register any difference between the calculated quantity in inventory and what you physically count.

Do I need to create an inventory journal before counting?

No. The ad hoc bin count works without inventory journals. You run it directly at the bin whenever you need to count.

Can I count more than one item on the same bin?

Yes. The function loops through the items, so after you register one item you can continue with the next item on the same bin until you have counted the full bin.

What happens if the physical count differs from inventory?

You enter the quantity you actually count, for example 11 instead of a calculated 12, and register it. The correction is recorded directly.
