The warehouse mobile in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central organises its functionality into a set of flows that follow how goods actually move through your warehouse. The flows cover inbound handling, outbound handling, bin activities, item activities, and physical inventory counting. The exact actions you see depend on your location setup. A full WMS location with bins shows all the bin-related flows, while a basic location without bins hides them and lets you receive and ship directly from the purchase and sales orders.

You receive goods through a warehouse receipt followed by a put-away document. You ship goods through a pick and a warehouse shipment document. If your location uses bins, you can look up where an item sits, see what is in a specific bin, and move items between bins. You can adjust inventory directly, run guided counting through physical inventory orders, or count a single bin ad hoc.

The structure of the flows in the warehouse mobile

The tiles in the warehouse mobile follow a logical order based on how goods flow through the warehouse. The screen starts with inbound handling, where you find the activities for receiving items. Next comes outbound handling. After that you have activities for warehouse bins, which appear if you use bins in your location setup. These cover bins and warehouse entries. Then you have activities for items and for physical inventory counting, plus a few additional flows.

The size of the tiles depends on your screen resolution. On a high-resolution screen the tiles are small. On a smaller resolution or a handheld scanner, the tiles are larger.

Inbound handling: warehouse receipt and put-away

The inbound flow starts with a warehouse receipt. If you select warehouse receive and enter an item number, the system automatically finds the warehouse receipt number for you. It grabs the warehouse receipt document and filters the line by item number and quantity to receive.

After the warehouse receipt, you register and post a put-away document. That completes the inbound handling.

Outbound handling: pick and warehouse shipment

On the outbound side you work with a pick document and a warehouse shipment document. You can also open the sales order list if you are looking for a specific sales order to ship.

Bin activities when your location uses bins

If your location setup uses bins, the warehouse mobile gives you several bin activities:

  • Find item: enter an item number and the system shows you the bin content, so you can see where the item sits in inventory.
  • Show bin content: ask what is in a specific bin and the system shows you the items.
  • Move all on a bin: move an entire bin to another bin, for example when you move a pallet with many items on it.
  • Ad hoc bin move: move a single item in a specific quantity from one bin to another.

Item activities: pictures and references

In the warehouse item menu you can show the item picture to see what an item looks like. You can add pictures to items, so you take a photo of the item and attach it to the item card.

If a barcode does not exist on an item, you can create an item reference. Scan the barcode and add it to the item card with this functionality.

Physical inventory counting

The physical inventory flows give you several options for counting and adjusting:

  • Adjust inventory directly.
  • Reset quantity to count when you start a counting job and want to reset the quantity. You then do the counting, post the count, and register the counting.
  • Physical inventory orders: create a physical inventory order for a guided counting.
  • Ad hoc bin count: count a single bin specifically.

How the location setup changes the available actions

The actions and tiles in the warehouse mobile change with your location setup. On a full WMS warehouse location you see all the flows, including the bin functionality.

If you switch to a basic location without bins, the bin functionality in the middle disappears completely. The inbound menu shrinks to a single tile because you receive directly on the purchase order. The outbound menu shows just the tiles for shipping from the sales order. This keeps the interface aligned with what the location actually supports.

Q&A

What flows does the warehouse mobile in Business Central contain?

The warehouse mobile contains flows for inbound handling, outbound handling, bin activities, item activities, and physical inventory counting, plus a few additional flows. The exact flows shown depend on your location setup.

How do you receive goods in the warehouse mobile?

You receive goods through a warehouse receipt followed by a put-away document. When you select warehouse receive and enter an item number, the system automatically finds the matching warehouse receipt and line.

How do you ship goods in the warehouse mobile?

You use a pick document and a warehouse shipment document. You can also open the sales order list to find a specific sales order.

How do you find where an item is located in inventory?

Use the find item function. Enter the item number and the warehouse mobile shows you the bin content, so you can see where the item sits. This requires a location that uses bins.

How do you move items between bins?

You can move all content of one bin to another bin, which is useful for moving a full pallet. You can also do an ad hoc bin move, where you move a single item in a specific quantity from one bin to another.

Can you add a barcode to an item from the warehouse mobile?

Yes. If a barcode does not exist on an item, you create an item reference by scanning the barcode and adding it to the item card.

What happens to the tiles when you switch to a basic location?

The bin functionality disappears because the location does not use bins. The inbound menu shrinks to a single tile for receiving directly on the purchase order, and the outbound menu shows only the tiles for shipping from the sales order.

What options do you have for physical inventory counting?

You can adjust inventory directly, reset quantity to count and run a counting job, use physical inventory orders for guided counting, or do an ad hoc bin count for a single bin.
