How to add notes and links to customers in Business Central?

In this video, I will go through how you can add notes or links almost everywhere in Business Central.

This is what happens in the video

Business Central lets you add notes and links to almost any record in the system. You can attach them to a customer, vendor, item, sales order, or purchase order.

You add notes and links through the Attachment fact box on the right side of the page. Press the plus sign to create a new note or link, or use the shortcut Alt+O to add a note quickly.

When you add a link, Business Central automatically fills in the description with the link address, and you can change it to something more meaningful.

Adding notes and links to records in Business Central

One of the handy details in Business Central is that you can attach notes or links to almost any record. It works on the purchase order, the sales order, the vendor, the item, and the customer. Wherever you need to keep a bit of extra context, you can put it right where it belongs.

Let’s take the customer as an example. When you open the customer list, you see the customer details in the fact box on the right side of the screen. From here you have direct access to attachments, which include both links and notes.

How to add a note to a customer

Click on the attachment option, and you will see the section for links and notes. To add a note, press the plus sign and type your text. If you prefer the keyboard, you can use the shortcut Alt+O to add a note without reaching for the mouse.

How to add a link to a record

Adding a link works the same way. Press the plus sign and enter the link address. Business Central automatically creates a description that matches the link address. You can change that description to whatever makes the link easier to recognise later.

In this example, the customer ended up with two notes and one link attached, all visible directly from the fact box.
