Master Data Information is a Business Central feature that lets you attach free-text information and structured values to master data records such as customers, vendors, items, batch numbers and bills of materials. You add the information directly from the master data menu on the relevant record.
You work with the information in three levels. The top level is the information code, which works like adding an extra field to the customer card. Below that you define information values, which are the predefined list of options you can choose from. When you select a value, the description fills in automatically.
You can also add extended text and handle multiple languages on the information you attach.
What Master Data Information does in Business Central
With Master Data Information you can enter texts on master data records across the system. This includes customers, vendors, items, batch numbers, bills of materials and more. The functionality is available directly from the master data menu on each record.
As an example, if you open customer no. 20000 and go to the master data menu, you find the text functionality there and can start adding information to that customer.
The three levels of Master Data Information
You add master data information in three levels.
The first level is the information code, which is the top layer. This works like adding a field to the customer card. In this example, the field is called Contact. You select the field you want to use.
The second level is the information value. Here you build a list of the different values you want to be able to assign. In the Contact example, these values are your contacts that you want to add to your customers.
The third level is the actual selection on the record. When you pick one of your contacts, the description fills in automatically, so you do not have to type it manually.
Extended text and language support
Master Data Information also lets you add extended text and handle different languages on the information you attach to your records.
