I’ll show you how to create a sales order through a blanket sales order.
This is what happens in the video
A blanket sales order in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central lets you set up an agreement for a total quantity and then create individual sales orders against it as you deliver. You create the sales order by opening the blanket sales order, entering the quantity you want to ship in the Quantity to Ship field on the line, and running the Make Order action. Business Central then generates a new sales order and gives you its number.
The Quantity field on the line shows the total quantity the blanket sales order covers. The Quantity Shipped field shows how much has already been delivered, so you always know what remains.
What a blanket sales order does in Business Central
A blanket sales order is an agreement for a total quantity of an item that you deliver across several individual sales orders. Instead of creating one large order, you keep the overall agreement in the blanket sales order and pull out smaller sales orders whenever you need to ship part of the quantity.
How to create a sales order from a blanket sales order
Start by searching for blanket sales order in Business Central and opening the relevant one. This is the order you will create your new sales order from.
On the lines, the Quantity field shows the total quantity the blanket sales order consists of. The Quantity Shipped field shows what has already been delivered. In this example nothing has been shipped yet.
To create a sales order for part of the agreement, enter the quantity you want to ship in the Quantity to Ship field on the line. In this case we want a sales order for two units, so we enter 2.
When you are ready, run the Make Order action. Business Central asks whether you want to create an order from the blanket order. Confirm, and a new sales order is created. The system shows you the number of the new sales order. Click OK to finish.
Why use a blanket sales order
The approach keeps your total agreement and your individual deliveries connected. You can see at a glance how much of the agreed quantity has been shipped and how much is left, while each delivery still gets its own sales order with its own number.
