In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, you can create a production order directly from a sales order. You fill out the sales order as usual, release it, and use the planning function to generate the production order. The system then links the two, so you can track the production order from the sales order through order tracking.
Creating a production order from a sales order in Business Central
When you have a sales order that requires items to be produced, you don’t need to create the production order separately. You can generate it straight from the sales order.
Start by filling out the sales order exactly as you would any other sales order. Once the lines are in place, release the order by pressing Release and then Release again.
Next, go to Actions, open Planning, and click Create Production Order. You can now choose the status of the production order, and press Yes to confirm. The production order is then created.
Tracking the production order from the sales order
After the production order has been created, you can follow it directly from the sales order using Order Tracking. Here you can see the linked production order, mark it, and press Show to open it. This confirms that the production order has been made and lets you work with it from there.
