It is possible to add catalog items on a sales quote.
When I do this, a normal item will automatically be created based on my catalog item.

You can add catalog items directly to a sales quote in Business Central. When you do, Business Central automatically creates a normal item based on your catalog item, so you can include it on the quote.
To add a catalog item, create a sales line with the type Item, choose Line and select Catalog Items, then pick the item you want. Once you confirm, the catalog item converts to a normal item and gets the item number defined in your catalog item setup.
