How to print pick instructions in Business Central?

From a sales order it is possible to print out a pick instruction.

This is what happens in the video

The pick instruction in Business Central is a simple printed document that tells a warehouse employee which items to pick for a specific sales order. You print it directly from the sales order using Actions, Print, Pick Instruction. You can preview it, send it to a printer, or export it as a PDF, Word, or Excel document.

The document shows the order and customer, the item number and description, the warehouse location, the shipment date, the quantity, and the unit of measure. If you use variant codes and bin codes, these appear on the document as well.

The pick instruction has space to write down by hand how many units have been picked and how many have been shipped. You can then update these quantities on the sales order before you post and ship it.

Printing a pick instruction from the sales order

You print the pick instruction directly from a sales order. Click Actions, then Print, then choose Pick Instruction. From there you can preview the document, send it straight to a printer, or export it to a PDF, Word, or Excel file.

Who prints the document depends on how your warehouse is organised. The sales department can print it themselves if they are the ones picking the items in the warehouse. Otherwise, they print it and hand it to a warehouse employee. Either way, the action starts on the sales order.

What the pick instruction contains

The pick instruction is a straightforward document that gives the warehouse everything needed to pick the right items. It shows which order and customer the items are for, along with the following details for each line:

  • Item number and description
  • The location in your warehouse
  • Variant code and bin code, if you use them
  • The shipment date for the items
  • The quantity and the unit of measure

Recording picked and shipped quantities

The document leaves room to write down by hand how many units have been picked and how many have been shipped. Once the items are picked, you can update these quantities on the sales order before you post and ship it. This keeps the order accurate without forcing you into a full warehouse management setup.
