This is what happens in the video

If you need to assign the same dimension to many records at once in Business Central, the multiple dimension functionality lets you do it in a single operation instead of editing each record individually.

You start from a list such as the customer list, select the records you want, and choose the multiple dimension option. You then pick the dimension code and value, for example a Department dimension set to Accessories, and Business Central applies it to all the selected records at once.

You can verify the change by opening the standard single dimension view on any of the records. The new dimension code shows up there alongside the customer’s existing dimensions.

Single dimension versus multiple dimension in Business Central

The single dimension view is the normal way of working with dimensions. When you open it on a specific customer, it shows only the dimensions for that one record. If you click into one customer and then the next, you see each entity’s dimensions on its own.

This works fine when you handle records one at a time. But when you want to apply the same dimension across a whole group of records, doing it one by one becomes slow.

How to assign a dimension to many customers at once

To add a dimension to several records in one go, follow these steps:

  • Open the customer list.
  • Select the customers you want to update.
  • Click Customer and then Multiple Dimension.
  • Add the dimension code and value, for example a Department dimension set to Accessories.

Business Central then adds that dimension to all the selected customers. To confirm it worked, open the normal single dimension view on one of the records and check that the new department dimension is listed.

The same approach lets you add dimensions to many lines in one operation, which saves time whenever you maintain dimensions across a large number of records.

Q&A
