The process code field is hidden by default in Business Central to avoid confusing users who don’t need it. To use it, you have to add the field manually to each page where you want it through personalization.

You add the process code on the General tab, on the production order lines if you want it on operation lines, and on the routing lines. If you want the process code to come through as a default from the routing, add it to the normal routing line as well.

You add all these fields using the Personalize function in Business Central. Select each page where you need the field, then add the process code field to that page.

Why the process code field is hidden by default

The process code is not shown out of the box. This is a deliberate choice. Many users don’t need the functionality, and showing the field everywhere would only add clutter and confusion. So the field is there, but you decide where it appears.

Where to add the process code field

If you want to work with the process code, you need to add it in several places depending on how you use it:

  • The General tab on the relevant page.
  • The lines, if you want to use the process code on the operation lines.
  • The routing line on a released production order. The process code has to be added here manually as well.
  • The normal routing line, if you want the process code to come through as a default from the routing.

How to add the process code field with personalization

You add the fields using the personalization function at the top of the page. Go through each page where you need the process code, then add the extra field. Once you’ve done this on every relevant page, the process code is available where you want to work with it.
