Registering production time and output with the consumption journal
When you work with production orders in Business Central, you use the consumption journal to register both run time and output quantity on your operations. The journal captures the actual time spent on an operation as well as the number of units you complete.
Take a typical scenario where you have already started working on one of your operations and now want to finish it. Using the drilling operation as an example, you register the run time you have spent. If you have worked an additional 18 minutes, you enter that as run time.
The output quantity is filled in by default, but you can change it if needed. If you are finishing the entire operation, you leave the suggested quantity in place. In this example, the output quantity is 10.
Changing the routing status when you finish an operation
Along with the run time and output quantity, you can update the routing status on the operation, or you can leave it open if more work remains. When you finish an operation, you change the routing status so the system knows the work is complete.
Verifying the result in the capacity ledger entries
Once you have posted the journal, you can check the result on the production order. If you open the capacity ledger entries for the production order, you see the run time recorded as 18 minutes and the output quantity recorded as 10.
When you open the production order routing line, you can see that the operation is now closed. This confirms that both the time and the output were registered correctly and that the operation is marked as finished.
