The mobile flows in Business Central all share the same logic and structure. Whether you use Shop Floor for production, Warehouse Mobile, or other mobile apps, the flow looks and behaves the same way.

When you start a flow such as “Register Finished Quantity”, you enter your user code, scan or select a production order, and the flow builds up step by step. It collects the information it needs along the way, and at the end you register the data with a single confirmation.

The lookups in the flows use standard Business Central logic, not custom-built logic. Depending on your setup, the flow either creates a journal line or posts it directly. Abakion normally recommends posting it. Some flows loop, so you can start over with a new production order without leaving the flow.

One shared logic across all Business Central mobile flows

Every mobile flow in Business Central is built on the same underlying logic and structure. That means the experience is consistent across the different apps. If you use Shop Floor for production, it works the same way as Warehouse Mobile or any of the other mobile apps. Once you learn one flow, the others feel familiar.

How a flow starts and identifies the user

To start a flow, you click the relevant action, for instance “Register Finished Quantity”. This opens a page where you enter your user code. Once you have stated your user code, the flow starts.

Selecting the production order

In the “Register Finished Quantity” example, the status is fixed as Released. That filter is locked, so you can only add quantities to released production orders.

You have three ways to select a production order:

  • Scan a production order if you have a barcode
  • Enter the order number manually
  • Look up and find the order number from a list of released production orders

When you confirm, the flow continues and the production order appears in the list.

How the flow builds up information step by step

If the production order has only one production order line, the item number is filled in as a fixed number automatically. If the order has more than one line, the flow asks you to select the production order line number, and it then states the line number and item number.

This is how the flow works in general. It builds up gradually, adding more and more information that it uses when you finish the flow. The same logic applies to every flow.

From there you state a quantity to output, for example two, and the flow adds it to the list. You can also change the routing status. Every lookup you see is provided by standard Business Central logic. It is not logic that has been built on top. The flows call upon standard Business Central functionality.

Registering and posting the data

At the end of the flow you register the data and confirm with yes, and the registration is done. What happens next depends on your setup. The flow either creates just a journal line and leaves it, or it posts the journal line. This is a setup choice. Abakion normally recommends that you post it.

Looping flows for continuous registration

Some flows loop. The “Register Finished Quantity” flow, for example, loops so you can start over again and select a new production order number. This reflects how production usually works. From one place in the production, you typically enter or finish many different production orders in a row. The looping behaviour can be changed if you need a different setup.

Q&A

Do the different Business Central mobile apps work the same way?

Yes. All mobile flows in Business Central are built on the same logic and structure. Shop Floor for production looks and behaves the same as Warehouse Mobile and the other mobile apps.

How do you select a production order in a mobile flow?

You have three options. You can scan a barcode, enter the order number manually, or look it up from a list of released production orders.

What happens if a production order has more than one line?

If the order has only one line, the item number is filled in automatically. If it has more than one line, the flow asks you to select the production order line number, and it then states the line number and item number.

Is the lookup logic custom-built or standard?

It is standard Business Central logic. The lookups call upon standard Business Central functionality rather than custom-built logic.

Does the flow post the journal line automatically?

It depends on your setup. The flow either creates just a journal line or posts it directly. Abakion normally recommends posting it.

Why does the Register Finished Quantity flow start over after each registration?

The flow loops because you usually enter or finish many different production orders in a row from one place in the production. The looping behaviour can be changed if needed.
