Presenter: Sune Lohse, Chief Strategy Officer

When you run production in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, registering run time on each operation is a routine but important task. The flow for registering run time lets you log the actual time spent on a specific operation in a production order, either by scanning or by entering the details manually.

You register run time per operation, so the time you log lands on the correct step in the routing. You can leave the routing status open if the operation isn’t finished, and the flow loops, which means you can register run time on several operations in one go.

The run time you register shows up in the capacity ledger entries for the production order. That gives you a clear, verifiable record of how much time each operation actually took.

How to register run time on a production operation

The flow for registering run time works the same way on each operation. The steps are straightforward:

  • Start the registration by clicking the relevant action.
  • Scan or select your production order number, or enter it manually.
  • Scan, select, or enter the operation number you’re registering against. For example, the drilling operation.
  • State the time you’ve used as run time on that operation.
  • Set the routing status to finished, or leave it open if the operation isn’t complete.

Once you’ve entered the details, you’re done with that operation.

Registering run time on multiple operations

The flow is built to loop, so you don’t have to start over for each operation. If you have several operations to register, you can move straight from one to the next and enter run time for each of them without leaving the flow.

Verifying run time in the capacity ledger entries

To confirm that your registration went through, look at the capacity ledger entries for the specific production order. There you can check that the time you logged shows up as run time. If you registered 43 minutes on the drilling operation, for instance, you’ll see those 43 minutes recorded as run time in the capacity ledger entry for that order.

Q&A

How do I register run time on a production order operation in Business Central?

Open the flow for registering run time, scan or select the production order number, then scan, select, or enter the operation number. State the time you used as run time, and set the routing status to finished or leave it open. Then you’re done.

Can I register run time on several operations at once?

Yes. The flow loops, so after you register run time on one operation you can move straight to the next and continue entering run time for as many operations as you need.

How do I check that my run time was registered correctly?

Open the capacity ledger entries for the specific production order. There you can verify that the time you logged appears as run time. If you registered 43 minutes, you’ll see 43 minutes recorded as run time for that order.

Do I have to mark the operation as finished when I register run time?

No. You can set the routing status to finished, but you can also leave the operation open if it isn’t complete yet.
