The Mobile Flow Engine is the setup layer beneath Shop Floor Mobile that lets you build and change flows in Business Central without modifying the core or writing custom code. You configure flows entirely through setup data. This means you can adjust how a process behaves, such as adding an extra step in the middle of a registration, without development.

You find the predefined flows in the Mobile Flow Setup in Business Central. Each flow has a setup beneath it that defines exactly which steps run and in what order. Configuring flows yourself is technically complex, so Abakion can help you set them up.

What the Mobile Flow Engine Is

The Mobile Flow Engine is the core concept that sits beneath Shop Floor Mobile. It is a setup we have defined that makes it possible to run a lot of flows in Business Central without changing the core and without doing any modifications.

When a worker registers time on the shop floor, for example, the flow guides them through each step: selecting the production order number, confirming the selection, clicking yes, and so on. That entire flow is driven by setup, not by hard-coded logic.

How Flows Are Configured in Mobile Flow Setup

You can see all the flows in the Mobile Flow Setup in Business Central. There are a lot of flows defined out of the box, and they are all delivered as setup data you can use directly.

If you open a flow, for example the “Find Item” flow, you can see the setup beneath it that explains exactly what the flow does. It defines the steps in sequence: first one action, then the next, what to look for in each step, and how the flow exits. Because the behaviour comes from setup data, you can change it.

Changing Flows Without Modifying the Core

If you need to capture some extra information in the middle of a process, you can add it to the flow. This is possible without touching the standard application or applying any code corrections.

The flexibility is real, but configuring flows yourself is rather complex. Learning how to set them up takes time, and getting the steps right requires a good understanding of the engine.

Getting Help With Flow Setup

Because the setup is complex, we are happy to help you build or adjust your flows. If you want to change an existing flow or define a new one, contact us and we will assist you.
