The Master Data Information app lets you build and view product hierarchies that can be transferred automatically to your e-commerce shop, web shop, or point of sale solution. You control how much of the hierarchy you see at a time.
You can display the full hierarchy or just a part of it, and you can choose whether to include items or only show the structure. This makes the hierarchy manageable even when you have thousands of items.
The hierarchy you build acts as the menu structure on your webpage and as a drill-down navigation in your point of sale solution.
Viewing product hierarchies in the Master Data Information app
The hierarchy is calculated automatically in the Master Data Information app. When you look at your master data, you can view the full hierarchy, view only part of it, and choose to show it with or without items attached.
There are a few actions that control what you see:
- Refresh Hierarchy displays the full hierarchy without items, giving you a clean overview of the structure.
- Refresh with items displays the full hierarchy including the items on each level.
- Refresh Hierarchy down displays only the selected part of the hierarchy and the levels below it.
- Refresh Hierarchy down with items does the same but also includes the items.
Showing only part of the hierarchy
If you want to see only a section of the hierarchy, you select the node you are interested in. For example, in a mountain bike shop, you can click the mountain bike shop node and choose to refresh the hierarchy with items down. You then see only the bike shop and the part of it below.
You can drill further by clicking the next level and refreshing with items down again. That way you see just that branch of the hierarchy, for instance the seven gear bikes, aluminum, and so on.
This flexibility matters when you have thousands of items. Instead of loading everything at once, you view only the parts of the hierarchy you are working with.
Transferring the hierarchy to e-commerce and point of sale
The hierarchy you build is not just for the backend. The idea is that it can be transferred automatically to your e-commerce shop, your web shops, or your point of sale solution.
On a webpage it works as the menu structure. In a point of sale solution it works as a drill-down for finding specific items. Viewing it in the backend gives you a clear overview of how the whole structure fits together.
Q&A
How do I view only part of a product hierarchy instead of the whole thing?
Select the node you want to start from, then use the Refresh Hierarchy down action. This shows only the selected part and the levels below it. You can also choose the version with items if you want the items included. This keeps the view manageable when you have thousands of items.
What is the difference between refreshing with and without items?
Refreshing without items shows only the structure of the hierarchy, which gives you a clean overview. Refreshing with items shows the full hierarchy including the items attached to each level.
Can the hierarchy from the Master Data Information app be used in my web shop or point of sale?
Yes. The hierarchy can be transferred automatically to your e-commerce shop, web shops, or point of sale solution. On a webpage it works as the menu structure, and in a point of sale solution it works as a drill-down for finding specific items.
