The replicate master data functionality, which is shown in a separate video.

The replicate master data functionality also works on documents, including both open and posted documents. This means you can display master data fields directly on your sales orders, purchase orders, and other document types instead of only on the underlying master data tables.

You configure this in the Master Data Information Setup using the replicate field. Once set up, the relevant master data appears in the document header and on the document lines, and changes you make on the line replicate back into the underlying master data table.

When you add new replicate fields to existing documents, you have to update the documents with the update action. New documents created after the setup get the fields inserted automatically.

Replicating master data fields on documents

On a sales order, you can show master data fields in both the header and on the item lines. For example, on sales order 10,001, the header has a master data field that was automatically added, holding information such as the contact. On the item lines, you can show other master data information such as tire type and wheel diameter.

If you want these fields to appear directly on the documents, you set this up in the Master Data Information Setup.

Configuring the replicate field in Master Data Information Setup

In the Master Data Information Setup, you work with the replicate field, which is explained separately. From here you can select fields from your open and posted documents as well as from the basic tables.

On the sales header, you can add the related information code, such as the contact. On the sales line, you can add one or more master data information fields, for example wheel diameter or tire type. You are not limited to a single field on the line, so you can add several at once.

Updating existing documents after changing the setup

After you add a new field, you need to update your documents. For documents you create from this point on, the fields are inserted automatically when you edit the document. But for orders that already exist when you make the change, you have to update them with the update action. This is not a manual entry task, but you do need to trigger the action.

Once the documents are updated, the next time you open the sales order, the contact appears in the header, and the tire type and wheel diameter appear directly on the sales line. The data replicates from the sales line into the underlying master data table, so you can work with replicate data on both open and posted documents.
